Making Money Online With Affiliate Marketing

Making money online with affiliate marketing is often viewed as an easy way to make cash. However, you must know the proper methods to achieve success. Below are some very effective tools and techniques to help you achieve financial success.

A) Some Initial Steps

The basic premise of affiliate marketing is to make money promoting someone else's product.

Clickbank is the most popular place to locate affiliate products. There are thousands of different products ranging anywhere from nutritional supplements to search engine optimization e-books. It's simple, just register for an account there and then browse the many products and choose one you like, then start promoting it.

How do you know when an affiliate product is worth it?

Make sure the commission you receive is at least 50% of what the selling price is. Also, $30 should be the minimum commission amount you receive, otherwise you won't be making money online with affiliate marketing - your profit margins will so small it won't make sense to continue your efforts.

B) Next In Line?

Make sure there is a demand for the product(s) you select. How do you do this? First you must think as a consumer, NOT a seller.

What kinds of keywords will your customer be using to search for the type of product you're promoting?

How much will the customer be willing to spend?

Can your product help the potential customer?

Making money online with affiliate marketing is so much easier once you have thought about and solved these issues in the beginning. It is imperative that you attempt to predict the mindset of the person you're selling to so you can make sure you are putting the product in front of the right person. This will get you into profit more quickly.

C) Some Marketing Items To Consider...

Article Marketing

Once you choose a product to promote, write commentaries, product descriptions and/or reviews so that you are creating a web presence about your product. Article marketing will easily be one of the most powerful methods you can implement for making money online with affiliate marketing. This method will not only help your presence online to grow but it will build your credibility, which is very important.

Oh yeah, in most cases article marketing is completely free!

Getting The Most Out Of Your Link

This is very important. Whenever you make a post in a forum, comment on a friend's MySpace page, or even send an email to someone, always include your link. As the number of your links online grow, so will your profits. It is very common for people to click links simply out of curiosity.

Forums

Forum participation is very effective. Make efforts to excite people about your opportunity by spreading the word like a virus. The Internet is perfect for this kind of thing.

Lightning Fast Financial Success

The most important element in making money online with affiliate marketing will come down to your marketing effectively online. If you're not sure of how to flood your site with targeted traffic, then making money will become a great challenge.

If you learn to master online marketing then you will absolutely succeed!

Keys to Website Success

Getting your website done up for your online marketing business? What are your expectations for a good website? What are the important factors that you are emphasizing on to get the desired results from your website? How do you plan to achieve such desired results that will project your website favorably with visitors and customers alike?

Designing a good website and making it work for you and your online business requires tremendous effort in meticulous planning, serious consideration and purposeful fine-tuning. Without all these factors, the vast amount of time, money and effort spent on starting up the website can all be wasted easily.

To achieve website success, it is imperative to consider the following points:

(1) Planning

Draft the plan for your website. What is the exact purpose for the website? This is important because it will set the direction that should be taken for the whole process of designing your website.

(2) Content consideration

Content is the meat and forms an integral part of the website. It is important to think about what content should be included on the website. Another aspect will be how often the content should be updated and how to get reoccurring content.

(3) Designing the website

This plays an important role in keeping your visitors for the first four seconds. The design of your website must speak its intention and desirability very clearly. What it has to show to the visitors must be made known in that very short time span. No beating around the bush whatsoever. It must be distinctly clear in sending its message across.

(4) Encouraging visitor participation

The website for whatever reason it is being designed must attempt to bring in visitors not only for the sake of traffic but also getting them involved by participating in the signing up of the free articles and newsletters that you are offering. The whole process must one of interaction, not just a one-way communication.

(5) Setting up the website

This poses no problems simply because there are professional web designers that you can approach for a certain fee, or alternatively, there are nowadays user-friendly software that you can purchase to design and build your own website, bearing in mind that the design has to be somewhat agreeable within limits to the intention of the website.

(6) Execution of follow-up

It will be extremely damaging if some visitor poses you a question but it is not being followed up within the same day. This reflects poorly on the efficiency on your part. It tarnishes the image of your online customer service.

(7) Promoting your website

In any marketing campaign, there is the element of promotion. After having posted your new website, it is crucial to spend some time in promoting it. It is new and therefore it has not garnered recognition or publicity withing this short period of time. It must be given some push through promoting it. There would be teething problems initially, so the website must be given close attention and nurturing, at least in this initial phase of being hosted.

(8) Executing maintenance of the website

Having set up the website on the internet, it is very important to maintain it. Enliven it with new and fresh content. Make it appealing as each day passes by and visitors returning looking forward to reading new information. Put a warm smile on your website everyday. It will be like what honey is to bees. The path to website success is being subtly laid ahead.

The prerogative after the website is being hosted is obviously getting visitors to know and come to your website. Without visitors to your website, the whole purpose of designing and hosting it will be defeated.

How do you plan to attract visitors to your website? There are several ways of realizing this plan:

(1) Submission of your website to various search engines

Submitting your site to various search engines will help in some way. Of course, it would be advisable not to place full reliance on them as they can be inconsistent. If budget permits, bidding for a spot on the search engine would be a more viable alternative simply because an extra bit of control can be exercised. Overture.com is one good choice.

(2) Put up various free offers

Who would not want to accept free offers if given? This can be best executed by explaining why the visitors in accepting the free offers would understand more about their problems on hand. "Grab free information relating to your backaches. You'll receive more of such information if your just sign in and allow me to mail you these free related information on a weekly basis".

(3)Put up ads online

It is a good opportunity to put up ads online. Run your paid ads in e-zines. Put your ad buried in another person's e-zine, or you can choose to buy a full page ad. The whole process will induce the source of incoming traffic to your website.

(4) Use word-of-mouth

This method is viral and is usually effective. Let the world know about your website by inserting your personal signature file on your name cards, brochures, leaflets, just to name a few. Inevitably, as this usually turns viral, it will lead to more website visibility.

The internet provides the opportunities for online success. All that is needed to be done is to leverage ourselves with technology. It is equally crucial to understand that website success needs good effort in planning, designing, hosting, promotion and maintenance of the website. Nothing is further from the truth that a well-maintained website is one guaranteed of success in the long run.

5 Ways to Succeed in Affiliate Marketing

Just what are the things needed to be able to succeed in affiliate marketing? What must one have within himself to be able to do well in this industry? There is a lot of competition involved in affiliate marketing, and to be able to rise above the norm, one must be equipped with just the right stuff necessary to propel him forward. There are five things one must ultimately possess if he wants to achieve the glory he is yearning for in this business, and these five things are a must for him to possess to be able to stand out among the rest.

The very first quality one must possess if he wants to try his hand in affiliate marketing is the willingness to learn and be trained. Treading through unfamiliar territory is scary stuff if one is not properly equipped, and he might get lost amidst a jungle of the unknown. Learning the tricks of the trade is also an important aspect of the game, and one’s willingness to know it all will give him far better advantages in the business than he could ever imagine.

The second quality one must possess is the willingness to invest time and effort even if direct results do not seem at all apparent. Although several months may pass without good news, it is important for one who has his foot in the industry to hold on and wait. It is this quality which would save him from giving up after investing a lot of himself in the business.

The third quality one must possess is self-determination. If one wants to conquer the affiliate marketing world, he must have the ability to push himself ahead. Never having to say die is a quality each and every affiliate marketer should possess, and the ability to motivate oneself into scaling greater heights is an ability which would actually take an affiliate marketer there.

The fourth quality one must possess is discipline. If one knows how to teach himself to work everyday with all the energy he can muster, then he is close to achieving what he has set his heart to having in the first place.

The fifth and last quality one must possess is optimism. Negative attitudes and hearsays should not discourage an affiliate marketer from pursuing what he has to in order to make life better for himself and for everyone concerned. Neither should anyone influence his attitude toward the business, because once in it, it is a must for him to be the captain of his ship and the master of his soul.

The ingredients to success in a business such as affiliate marketing are diverse and manifold, but the most important thing one needs to be able to make it big lies in himself alone. It is he who has the capacity to do everything to be able to realize his prospects, and the desire which fuels his heart in doing so is the gasoline which should keep the engine going.

Affiliate marketing is all about putting one’s fate into his own hands. The right attitude is the key to being able to steer one’s ship into that part of the ocean where a certain kind of serenity can be found, one that permeates the atmosphere as the ship sails calmly on.

Never Let Someone Else Host Your Blog

Curious as to whether you should host your own blog, or blog from a remote server? This is a question more and more people are asking themselves after witnessing just how far the blog has come. Note that there are just as many disadvantages as there are advantages to doing both. But being experienced in a little programming, we believe blogging on your own server is far more advantageous for a couple of key reasons.

Reason #1: Limited Blogging Resources and Tools

Posting content through a remotely hosted blog requires that you relinquish a tremendous amount of control over how messages look and work. This is mainly because a remotely hosted blog by design is built to accommodate hundreds of thousands of bloggers. For such a big volume of activity, it can only afford to offer the very least. A blog that offers an extensive amount of features to a large number of people consumes much more resources than what its own servers can provide -- ultimately running the risk of major crashes.

Even something as simple as a low-graphic poll can consume an insurmountable amount of bandwidth if over 100,000 bloggers decide to offer one to their visitors. Imagine for example how much bandwidth a popular blog already consumes. **Popular** blogs can consume anywhere from two to three times that a week. If a blog server hosts 500 popular blogs, its capabilities would reduce with each use of a simple poll!

Resources simply aren't an issue with a self-hosted blog these days. With your own server, you can deck out your blog with as many plugins and widgets as your heart desires without having to fear server crashes or time outs. In fact, you shouldn't consume any more bandwidth with your own hosted blog than you would consume with your own hosted website.

Reason #2: Limited Money Making Opportunities

We couldn't count the number of people who want to monetize their blogs if we wanted to. The simple fact is that everyone and his "mom" wants to monetize their blog but the ugly reality is that many (free) remotely hosted blogs don't allow it. Limited resources could play a factor in this restriction, however since most monetized campaigns call upon the resources of a 3rd party, this restraint is mostly censorship. Blogs that curb 3rd party ads generally want to limit advertisements to their own products and/or services.

With your own blog of course, you can advertise whatever, whenever, where ever. You're only restricted by your conscience (or by the data revealed from your visitor stats) and the only policies that you have to follow are the policies of your 3rd party ad providers. This accordingly opens doors for tremendous opportunities with Adsense, Amazon, and any number of the hundred other affiliate schemes we have available.

An example restriction that you'd still have to watch for -- even with your own blog -- is Adsense's restriction against multiple ads. Although your own blog gives you the freedom to advertise what you want, Adsense restricts you from advertising more than a specific number of Google ads at a time and advertising Google ads with other competitive schemes like Bidvertiser. We find that Google ads used in conjunction with Amazon books ads, Clickbank affiliate links, and AuctionAds eBay products create a nice restriction-free mix of quality wares.

You will of course want to experiment. Just remember that all the plugins that your own blog comes with helps create a unique visitor experience. Open opportunities often lead to abuse, so keep a watchful eye on how your audience reacts to the ways that you customize your blog. Don't overdo it with ads and don't overburden your visitor's Internet connection with unnecessary plugins.

Affiliate Sales- Reviewing Clickbank Products

Clickbank is the world's largest internet provider of digital products. Everyday many products are added to Clickbank's marketplace for Affiliate Marketers to evaluate whether they want to promote that product or not.

Those that are new to Affiliate Marketing go to Clickbank and then try to sort through all the products and then set up campaigns and web sites to promote them. Expectations are huge and all the hype that takes place with the "pitch pages" of the products can lead Affiliate Marketers down a path of self destruction.

Only a small percentage of people promoting products on Clickbank actually make the "big bucks". Those on the outside of this group don't know what they have done wrong and after much effort, give up.

To assist those just starting out, there is a few things that can help in determining whether a product on Clickbank is worth promoting and has the potential to make money. By using the following key points as a check list when reviewing pitch pages, it is easy to evaluate a good quality pitch page versus one that won't convert for the Affiliate Marketer.

Key #1 - Understanding Keywords

This is a given when it comes to AdWords and promoting any product. If your keywords are not relevant to the product you are promoting, no one is going to buy the product. You have to look at this from the customer's point of view. If they type in a keyword in the a search engine and your product comes up, but when they open up the pitch page and the keyword didn't match up with what they are looking for, they will just hit the "back" button on their computer and move on. You just lost a sale.

Key #2 - The Headline

Does the headline stand out? Does it capture your attention? Does it create a desire for you to want to read more? If it doesn't, it's time to look for another product to promote. If you aren't interested in reading the full pitch page, neither will be your customers.

Key#3 - What's in it for me?

Again, put yourself in your customer's shoes. Think about the benefits and features of what the product is promoting. Does it match up with your keywords for relevance and does it create a "what's in it for me" desire to learn more. How does it benefit your customer?

Key #4 - Is there a unique selling proposition?

Products that offer a unique selling proposition will sell much better than anything else. What is unique about this product that other products are not offering? How can you capitalize on this to gain a niche that others will miss out on?

Key #5 - Are there testimonials?

Are there testimonials? These are important to show credibility of the product being sold. A few are really good, too many and it can overwhelming and they will not be read.

Key #6 - Is there a guarantee?

Even though this is important for your pitch page and customers really look at them, Clickbank requires all products sold to have a 56 day return policy. Now, if the guarantee is for longer than 56 days, it would catch my attention.

Key #7 - Is there a call to action?

It's amazing how many pitch pages I have seen that have not had a call to action. It's really hard to make a sale if you don't instruct a customer on what to do to make the purchase.

Key #8 - Are there "exits" off the pitch page?

Phone numbers, email address', text links to other web pages, and opt-in boxes for newsletters, free offers, and trials are considered "exits" off of the pitch page that benefit the seller and not the affiliate marketer. Look for all "exits" to make sure they benefit both the seller and the affiliate marketer.

Again, as an Affiliate Marketer, use these keys as a checklist to do your research on your products. By taking the time to do this research, a new Affiliate Marketer can be well on their way to success.

How to Use Two Tier Affiliate Programs

To those who are not familiar with affiliate marketing, two-tier could be a new term to you but to those who are involved in this kind of money-making experience know that it provides a steady stream of income. Two-tier is an enticing feature of a particular affiliate program wherein, affiliates are allowed to sign-up additional affiliates below them. So that when the sub-affiliates otherwise known as second tier affiliates, earns a commission, the affiliate above receives a commission too.

In two-tier systems, the first tier of commission is just like in the usual affiliate program. The sole difference is that it has an additional tier/s or sub-affiliates, whereby marketers also gain a commission once the people that the additional tiers referred to the program generate sales. Theoretically, affiliate programs can have multi-tier programs with infinite number of tiers, however, there are practical limitations. As tiers increase, the affiliate program draws more webmasters who are mostly interested in gaining profit from other’s work and effort.

Two-Tier affiliate programs are also recognized as Multi-Level Marketing. When you sign-up for an affiliate program, you are identified as the first tier and the person that you have recruited or encouraged to sign up is the second tier. If there are additional tiers, then the system can now be regarded as multi-level marketing (MLM). But today, MLM isn’t as effective and successful as it was several years ago. It is because at present, affiliates can freely select from thousands of affiliate programs and they can quickly switch from one program to another.

You are however, wrong if you’re thinking that you can depend on your second tier to do the job for you. So if you want to use two-tier affiliate programs to your advantage and generate more income by encouraging sub-affiliates to sign-up below you, make sure that you carefully choose your affiliate merchant. Pick those merchants who generate a stable stream of high quality products, give high or just commissions, offer real time tracking, furnishes you with a proven and tested advertising arsenal and treat their affiliates very well. You can also sign-up for the merchant who gives high visitors-to-sales conversion rate.

It is also advisable if you engage yourself with a web merchant that has a user-friendly website which you can access anytime to monitor your statistics including visits and sales. And if possible, choose the one with powerful marketing tools which you can use in promoting their products.

You’re just wasting your time and effort and worse, damaging your integrity once you promote poor affiliate programs because your visitor will surely presume that the product or service you are reselling must be dreadful too. That’s the reason why it is important to pick first-rate affiliate programs. Through these, you can not only build up a good relationship with your visitor, but also, you can easily get more tiers to sign-up under you. You should also be cautious of some affiliate programs that give more importance on the profits to be earned in taking on other affiliates than on the income from sales, because you’ll eventually find out that someone has already closed those sales without informing you. Usually, this kind of affiliate program offers a very low first-tier payment but a sky-scraping second-tier commission.

If you want to start an affiliate program of your own, you have to decide whether it will be a single tier or two-tier affiliate program. Who am I to say which of these two programs are better? But let me tell you the benefits you could get out of two-tier affiliate program.

First, your profit will increase due to increased sales from the customers that your second tier has referred. Second, you have a much broader customer base to which you can sell your products and services. You gain more and stable income because the customers referred by your affiliate and sub-affiliates could probably develop a lifetime loyalty on your site and your products. Plus, you have an army of sub-affiliates who will promote and resell your products and services to their visitors and subscribers.

Two-tier programs have been a proven winner and should be the number one choice for the budding affiliate, as well as for the affiliate program managers. When you start gaining profits from your site as well as your tiers, this is now the right time to say that you have used two-tier affiliate program to your advantage.

Make Money On The Internet - Without A Product

Another good article on affiliate marketing and sales.

Think you need your own product to make money on the Internet? Well, you don't. There are several ways around it. Here I will discuss one of them, called "affiliate marketing".

Many entities offer an affiliate program, which you may join to promote their product or service. The provider of said product rewards their affiliates based on performance.

In order to track performance, most affiliate programs supply you with a URL, specially coded with your unique affiliate ID. Your ID may be a name or number that you choose, or it might be assigned by the merchant.

Your new URL is the address you will send potential customers (prospects) to. When your prospects reach the vendors website via your coded URL, their purchases are credited to you, the referrer. Then, the vendor can pay you the appropriate commission, based on either a percentage of the sale, or a set bounty.

Commissions may also be paid for referring leads. This is when you earn a commission by referring a prospect to sign up for a service, or fill out a form. Commissions for generating leads are usually a fixed amount.

For example, you are promoting a real estate company that pays $10 per lead. The prospect clicks on your link to visit that companies website. Once there, they fill out a form to receive more information about buying a house. According to the terms of the affiliate agreement, this is a qualified lead. The company knows to pay you $10 for the lead, thanks to your ID code embedded in the URL.

Most vendors will use cookies to track referrers. Cookies are little bits of information placed on the user's computer when they visit a site. If a customer leaves the vendor's website without purchasing, they can return later and the vendor's computer will recognize the cookie. These cookies tell them that you are the referrer, so you will be awarded the commissions due for a sale.

The specific details and structure of affiliate programs can vary, but are usually built around the above basic processes. Other systems include MLM or Multi-Level Marketing (aka Pyramid schemes), Network Marketing, Two-tier programs, and Pay-Per-Click or Pay-Per-Thousand impressions advertising (i.e. Google Adsense).

The best way to choose your program(s) is to pick something you are passionate about, such as a favorite hobby. This way you will have plenty of information to offer customers, and increase your chances of making sales.

There are other factors to look at and work into the equation:

* Find out if there is a demand for what you will be promoting.

* See how much competition there is in that niche.

* Make sure the vendor has an effective sales letter or sales page, to convert prospects into paying customers.

* Look for products which are not overpriced, but pay high commissions.

* The best vendors to use will be well established, with a low return rate.

While the popular choice is to have your own website for advertising affiliate links and banners, it is not always necessary. A lot of people have made money simply advertising their affiliate URL with Google Adwords, Yahoo! Sponsored Search, etc.

With the right affiliate marketing programs and your own creative promotion techniques, you can earn a good living on the Internet without personally selling or shipping a product.

The 3 Most Critical Tools In Affiliate Marketing

A great article looking at the basics of affiliate marketing.

The 3 Most Critical Tools In Affiliate Marketing
by: Steve Sharpe

Although affiliate marketing is touted as one of the easiest and most effective ways to earn money online, it is not as easy as it sounds. The wise affiliate marketer plans every action and executes it the best way he can. He should also maximize the potential to earn by utilizing the right tools necessary for a successful Affiliate Marketing business. We have consulted some of the most successful affiliate marketers in the business and below are the top three tools necessary for a successful affiliate marketing business.

Important Tool #1: Your Own Website

The most important and indispensable tool in Affiliate Marketing is your own website. The first step in any successful affiliate marketing business is building a good, credible and professional looking website. Your website is the start off point of all your marketing efforts. Thus, you must first build a user-friendly website, which will appeal to your prospects and encourage them to click on the links to the products and services you are promoting and ultimately make a purchase. Therefore, you must first concentrate your efforts in building a website that will cater to what your prospects need.

The most important thing you should consider is that almost all web users go online to look for information, not necessarily to go and buy something. Above all else, make your website full of original, relevant and useful content. People will love articles that are appealing and helpful. Keep in mind that, in the internet, content is still king and good quality content will not only build your credibility, it can also help you achieve a higher search engine ranking. By posting relevant and useful articles, you establish yourself as a credible expert in the field, making you a more trustworthy endorser of the product or service you promote. Establishing a good reputation is the single most important step in building up a loyal consumer base.

Important Tool #2: Incentives

Competition is extremely high in the internet world. You must always be one-step ahead of your rivals to ensure that you capture a significant share of your target market. Therefore, you must use every possible means to encourage people not only to visit your site but also to click and proceed to the websites of the products and services you are promoting. Building an opt-in email list is one of the best ways to gather prospects. Offer a newsletter or an e-zine. Better yet, offer incentives to your prospects to encourage them to subscribe to your newsletters. You can present free software, access to exclusive services and other freebies that will be helpful to your prospects.

Important Tool #3: Link Popularity

The importance of driving highly targeted traffic to your website cannot be emphasized enough. The all-important web traffic is at the top of the list of the most important entities in the internet world. Attracting people to your site should be the first step you should carry out. Do everything to achieve a high search engine ranking. Link Popularity is one of the factors that search engines use to determine search engine rankings. Therefore, to enhance your link popularity, you must launch an aggressive reciprocal and one way link campaign.

One of the best ways to do this – at no cost at all – is by submitting articles, with your website's link at the resource box, to e-zines and free article sites. You will not only gain exposure, you will also have the opportunity to advertise for free, just include a link back to your site. The more sites you submit your articles to, the better your link popularity is. Make your articles original, relevant and useful so that more websites will pick them up and post them.

These are but three of the many tools that an affiliate marketer can use to maximize earning potential. The possibilities are endless and are limited only by your imagination, creativity, resourcefulness and determination. You can always explore other ideas and adapt other strategies, which you think might help you become a high rolling affiliate marketer.

The New Rules of Marketing and PR

The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to Use News Releases, Blogs, Podcasting, Viral Marketing and Online Media to Reach Buyers Directlyis a recent release that discusses in detail new marketing and PR strategies today. From the review:

Though it may not yet have affected the value of 30 seconds of Super Bowl advertising, PR insider Scott argues that understanding the growing irrelevance of marketing's "old rules" is vital to thriving in the new media jungle. Already apparent in newspapers and magazines (with sharp downturns in circulation and ads), radio (on the losing end of the iPod revolution) and direct mail (digitally replaced by spam), the imminent fall of traditional mass media marketing means new opportunities for legions of smaller companies and independent professionals who need to reach niche markets cheaply and effectively. The way Scott sees it, this is also good news for consumers: the online culture of integrity and information tends to produce quality content for less, as opposed to the vapid, one-sided and pricey advertising of print media and television. Scott provides the technical novice a thoughtful and accessible guide to cutting-edge media arenas and formats such as RSS, vodcasts and viral marketing, without neglecting the fact that technological wizardry can't substitute for a well-thought out marketing program. Besides emphasizing fundamentals like defining one's audience, Scott also drills home the ethos and etiquette of the web, encouraging content that's both useful and unobtrusive. This excellent look at the basics of new-millennial marketing should find use in the hands of any serious PR professional making the transition.

Get Your Own Affiliate Marketing Website

Many people just starting up in affiliate marketing often ask if it is really important to obtain their own domain and website when selling as an affiliate. After all, many affiliate programs offer the seller a prefab store complete with shopping cart and all. In my experience, the question of getting your own website is a no-brainer. I feel strongly that it is worth a few bucks to invest in your own domain name for no other reason than to present your business in a good and professional light.

Read on for more information on this topic.

3 Tops Reasons Why You Must Have Your Own Affiliate Marketing Website
by: Mal Keenan

Budding entrepreneurs entering the affiliate marketing business invariably struggle with many questions on the setup, methods and strategies of their new business.

In dealing with prospects on a daily basis the same question arises time and time again:

Should I get your own website? Do I need one? Will it make a difference to my affiliate sales?

If you have ever joined any affiliate programs at all then you will know that every affiliate program provides you with your own version of the merchants sales page - coded with your affiliate link, in order to track sales.

Technically it is possible to make money promoting this turnkey site that the merchant has provided. In my professional opinion and from my own experience though, this is NOT the way to go if you are serious about making your affiliate business a full-time enterprise.

Let me explain why - giving the most important points against using the affiliate website:

1. By far the most important factor is that the affiliate program can go out of business at anytime leaving any promotions that you have done for your affiliate site useless. If you have links on the www pointing to an affiliate page and the company is no longer in existence then those links will fail to work.

If you have your own website then YOU are in control. You can simply point the link on your end to a new company and thus give you a chance of building a new income stream.

2. It is undoubtedly of massive importance that you build your reputation online. If you only promote another persons website, even though it will bring you commissions, it will usually have the name of the product owner on this site. So, in this case, you are building the merchants' reputation and web presence instead of your own. Branding your name and business online will lead to further success so it's better to get YOUR name out there right from the very start.

3. Point 3 is, that with an affiliate page you don't have the ability to make changes to your webpage. Again, this is a business, so you MUST add your own uniqueness and some personality to the aspect of this business that you are presenting to the public. You CANNOT do this with the affiliate site that the merchant provides - ONLY with your own website and domain name.

So by now you may be asking for the solution. The only answer is to get a website and build YOUR own web presence and brand rather than someone elses. This way you can promote any affiliate programs you like from your new site AND you can change the links, content etc. as often as you require.

This is how I personally do it. If you visit my own sites you will see that I have added loads of my own content BUT each of the links from within that site point to affiliate product from which I will get a commission for evey sale that is made.

Do you see how this works? Do you see how it is a much better strategy than promoting an affiliate page that will NEVER belong to me?

Now, at this stage you may be terrified as to how you where you would even start to acquire your own business domain name and website.

The process is actually quite simple, once you actually begin to push through the fear and take action.

If you don't see the importance of having your own website now then believe me, it WILL become clear as you get a better understanding of online business.

For a few dollars per year for a domain name and hosting you are much better to have an affiliate website than be without one.

Tips and Tricks for Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing has become a terrific income generator for many online sellers today. There exists today a large number of affiliate programs and product lines to choose from. The following article discusses some of the various ways that you can become more successful if you choose to pursue affiliate sales.

Each and every one of us has their own special interests or a hobby. We may love and have a large collection of books, music, and movies or we may be sports fanatic or enjoy traveling. We may also love gardening or having pets. Doing things we love to do, reduces stress and helps us to temporarily forget our every day problems and troubles, in some cases it may inspire us to find a solution to a problem. But not everyone has a hobby that makes money for him/her except if you love your job.

Earning money with a hobby you love to do could earn you an extra income, with practice and experience it could allow you to quit your day job. That is why many of us today go online to start a business; their reasons are either to supplement their income or to gradually replace their offline income from their job. A great way to start making money online is through affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing is sharing revenue between an online merchant and one or more affiliates. The affiliate refers new customers to the online merchant and is paid a commission for either the new referral or sales generated. There are several advantages to affiliate marketing, mainly you don't need to generate or stock an inventory of products, no need to create an online e-store, and you never have to worry about keeping a customer happy, the merchant takes care of it all.

Now, for sure you want to be an affiliate marketer with all the benefits an affiliate could get. But, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer? To properly begin in affiliate marketing, you have to decide what area or areas you're interested in. What products do you know the most and which products you could do the best job of selling? Once you discover your specialty; perseverance, patience, and determination comes next. These qualities should be possessed in order to be a good affiliate marketer.

A lot of online affiliate marketers become impatient and fail. You have to know your strengths and weaknesses, what things are you good at and what are your abilities and capabilities related to your chosen niche. The most important thing is you have to have a strong desire and will to succeed in affiliate marketing.

To be an affiliate marketer is not an easy task. You have to learn the techniques of marketing your product or service. There are many marketers out there promoting their ways of marketing, one should be cautious in attempting to jump on each technique. To be a successful affiliate marketer, you should learn how to listen and to be taught because in life we need to learn skills to get by.

An affiliate marketer should know how to effectively market their product; an effective marketing technique will get thousands of visitors to view their product which equates to more sales. Creating and publishing your own website will create a bigger chance of making money online faster. Avoiding the same mistakes of other affiliates is advised; many are just in it for a quick buck and fail to build a long term business. It's important to understand that you're building a long term business. It is essential to focus on what will makes you several sales each day and not the few dollars you'll make in one sale.

It is also better to have knowledge on how to upsell your visitors for expensive services. This will distinguish you as an expert to the field which will allow you to sell more products and make more money. There are some people thinks that just by having affiliate links on their website will bring them good profits. It is true that some affiliates do make good money this way, but many still believe that it is more effective to use a strong marketing campaign in order to be successful. Affiliate marketers who treat their online visitors or customers as friends are more successful than those who don't. Establish a relationship with customers and especially with the visitors to your website. Building a good business relationship with customers will bring that customer back again and again.

You should also be creative. The real key to being successful with affiliate marketing is to develop a good content based website and weave your affiliate links into all your content. Providing your visitors with good, quality, and updated content will keep them coming back to your site. Affiliate marketing can be a long term profitable and successful business. Do you have what it takes to succeed?

A Few More Words on Affiliate Marketing

I wanted to do a follow up on the exciting world of affiliate marketing. Read on and start your own affiliate business today.

A Few Steps on How to do Affiliate Marketing

By: Zach Thompson

Affiliate marketing is one of the simplest forms of business that you can do online. Unfortunately, many people are unsure as to how to approach this business. Consequently they find themselves making little or no money from their businesses. Disappointed, they often give up. In actual fact with proper knowledge and management, you can make a lucrative business from affiliate marketing alone. It is considerably more than being just a salesman for someone else.

Choosing a concept:
First, decide on a topic for your business that you are interested in and will enjoy building a business around. For example, you may be interested in the health and wellness industry. This is itself a huge industry with many different concepts within it. Each of these concepts can be developed into a specialty, niche, or market.

Choosing your market:
If you are interested in health and wellness, then try to find a niche within this industry. Finding a niche market within your industry is very important to make a profitable business. For instance, nutrition is a good market to find a niche as people are becoming more health conscious. Once you start exploring niches, then you will find new specialized markets opening up. Once you have selected your niche market and understood your market position, it is time to choose some related programs

Choosing an affiliate program:
When choosing your related programs, bear in mind which ones will be more profitable. High end products, although a little harder to sell, will bring in good profits once you have set up a successful marketing system. However, some of the best money to be made with affiliate marketing is through residual income.

Residual income with affiliate marketing:
The most profitable way to do affiliate marketing is to choose sponsors or programs that offer residual income. These programs will offer a residual or monthly income. For example, if you affiliated with a PLR or membership site, you will get monthly commissions for as long as the person stays as a member. As you join more programs offering residual incomes you will build a steady stream of income. This will mean that you will need very little marketing to build up a good passive residual income

Join 2 tier affiliate programs:
Another way that you can build a passive residual income with affiliate marketing is to join 2 tier affiliate programs. These programs will allow you to build a team of affiliates below you. You will gain a small commission every time they sell a product. Remember to make sure the program offers products or services that have residual or monthly commissions.

Try to build your own theme based website:
You will be able to join more affiliate programs and promote them all from one place. In this way you will be increasing your residual income and saving money on doing multiple promotions for each product. Be sure these products are all related to your main theme. Increase your commissions by starting your own free newsletter and building your opt-in list. You will be able to offer them your affiliate products and get them to join your programs.

Essential Internet Marketing Acronyms Explained

Here is a great article that I came across dealing with the many acronyms that you must know to survive online. Enjoy!

If you're new to Internet marketing, the many acronyms and abbreviations often used in discussions on the subject can be confusing. To help you get up to speed quickly, here are the meanings of the most important:

ASCII - American Standard Code for Information Interchange - A universally recognized set of digital codes that represent each of the letters, punctuation marks, and other symbols you can type on your computer. What people usually mean by "plain text."

ASP - Application Service Provider - Company that offers access to software applications and related services over a network or the Internet.

B2B - Business to Business - Refers to trade between businesses rather than between businesses and consumers

B2C - Business to Consumer - Refers to businesses selling products or services to end-user consumers.

CGI - Common Gateway Interface - A way web servers pass information to and from application programs (to process forms for example). CGI programs or "scripts" can be written in several programming languages, including C, C++, Java and Perl.

CPA - Cost Per Action - Cost to an advertiser for each visitor that takes a specific action in response to an ad, such as subscribing to an ezine, requesting a free trial, or making a purchase. Also used to describe advertising employing this model.

CPC - Cost Per Click - Cost to an advertiser for each click on a promotional link by a site visitor or newsletter reader. Also used to describe advertising employing this model.

CPL - Cost Per Lead - Advertising expenditure required to obtain each new sales lead.

CPM - Cost Per Thousand - The amount charged per thousand impressions (showings) of an ad ("M" is the Roman numeral for 1000). Whilst websites sell ad impressions in blocks of 1000, with newsletters the number of subscribers determines the final price. Also used to describe advertising employing this model.

CPS - Cost Per Sale - Advertising expenditure divided by sales generated to determine the cost to make each sale; or the commission payable for each sale generated by an affiliate.

CR - Conversion Rate/ Ratio - The percentage of respondents to an ad, or readers of a sales message that complete the action desired (usually making a purchase, but can also be subscribing to a newsletter, for example).

CRM - Customer Relationship Management - Improving interaction with customers through better understanding, with the aim of increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty (thus increasing profits).

CSS - Cascading Style Sheets - Used to globally define how elements in a Web page are displayed instead of relying on HTML code in the page. Makes designs more flexible and reduces HTML file sizes.

CTR - Click-Through Rate/ Ratio - The percentage of website visitors or newsletter readers who click on a particular link. Used to measure response to ads or sales messages.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions - Often used as the title of a page on websites that answers commonly asked questions about a product or service.

FFA - Free-For-All Links - Web pages that allow anyone to add a link back to their own website, usually in exchange for accepting promotional messages from the FFA page owner.

PFI - Pay For Inclusion - Paying to have web pages included in a search engine's database and regularly updated.

PPA - Pay-Per-Action - Affiliate commissions where a set amount is paid for generating a specific action, such as taking a free trial or subscribing to an ezine. PPL, PPC and PPS are usually considered as PPA.

PPI - Pay Per Impression - Where an advertiser pays for each display (impression) of their advertisement (usually a banner).

PPL - Pay-Per-Lead - Where a commission is paid for each sales lead generated by an affiliate. A "lead" is usually defined as somebody who signs up for a free trial, or requests further information, etc.

PPC - Pay Per Click - Ad sales or affiliate commissions where a set amount is paid for each click on a promotional link by a consumer.

PPCSE - Pay Per Click Search Engine - A search engine where the results are composed of advertisers who pay a fee for each click on their listing. Using a bidding system, the advertiser willing to pay the most is ranked highest.

PPS - Pay-Per-Sale - Where a commission is paid for each sale generated by an affiliate. The commission is usually a percentage of the sale, although sometimes it's a fixed amount.

ROI - Return on investment - How much profit is made after advertising and other costs have been subtracted. A measure of how successful a marketing campaign is in terms of the returns on money spent.

RON - Run Of Network - Where ads (usually CPM banners) are shown (rotated) across the pages of the entire network of sites owned by a company, or controlled by a particular advertising network. Cheaper than only having the ad appear on selected sites.

ROS - Run Of Site - Where ads are rotated across the pages of a single site. Cheaper than only having the ad appear on selected pages.

SE - Search Engine - A searchable database of pages on the Web. Different from an Index (like Yahoo) in that pages are not reviewed by a human editor before inclusion.

SEM - Search Engine Marketing - Similar to SEO (below), and sometimes used to emphasize that generating quality targeted traffic is of greater importance than simply obtaining high rankings. Can also include PPCSEs and other search engine advertising.

SEO - Search Engine Optimization - The process of optimizing web pages to achieve high rankings in the search results of a search engine, in order to attract more visitors.

SEP - Search Engine Positioning - Getting your page listed on the search engine results page. Similar to SEO.

SERP - Search Engine Results Page - The page of listings displayed upon completion of a search at a search engine.

SSI - Server Side Include - A way for a web server to include variable values and information from an external source into a web page as it is requested by the browser. Uses include automatic display of data like the Last Modified date of the page, or storing common page elements in their own files, enabling site-wide updates by modifying a single file.

USP - Unique Selling Proposition - The reason why somebody should buy from you and not your competition. The unique benefits that your products or services offer consumers. What it is that makes you special, different.

I suggest you print this article out and keep it somewhere handy. Refer to it whenever you're not quite sure what something stands for, and before you know it you'll be an old hand!
